History

Building

Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India (formerly Maulana Azad College of Technology, MACT), is one of the first eightRegional Engineering Colleges in India. The institute has been named after the great scholar, educationist and the first Education Minister of the Republic of India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. The Govt. of India and Govt. of Madhya Pradesh jointly sponsored the then MACT (a Regional Engineering College) in 1960 to attract bright young students from across the country. The Institute is successfully meeting the objective of producing skilled engineers of the highest quality who are able to cope up with challenges of ever evolving industrial needs of the country.

The Institute is situated in the Bhopal Central region of Bhopal City on southern side. The verdant 650-acre (2.6 km2) campus is on a plateau with academic building, hostels and residential quarters.


Student life

MANIT has students from all parts of the country. Student life revolves around the college campus and hostels. College has Hostel facilities with round the clock net connectivity, electricity, water, security, canteen and other facilities for students.For boys there are separate hostels for students who are in different academic years.For girls there is only one hostel considering the relatively small number of girls at MANIT. Hostels are available for undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students. All the hostels have a Care Taker, an Assistant Warden and a Warden separately. A Chief Warden is appointed who is heads the functioning of all hostels and usually this post is held by one fo the senior Professors of the college.

The institute also attracts international students from many countries such as Oman, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Mauritius, Malaysia, Iran, United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan for various undergraduate and post-graduate programs.

The college has active student life with various student organizations that include Drishtant (The literary society), IBC ( Intellect Browsers' Consortium, The Management Society ),http://iste.manit.ac.in ISTE](Technical Community), Vision (Science community), ROTARACT (Social service related), Society of automotive engineers( for Automobile freaks), Roobaroo( cultural),The Edboard, etc. The students get the opportunity to learn a lot more than mere academics.


Festivals

MANIT hosts various major national-level meets, namely:

  • 'Technosearch' - Annual National Level Technical Meet: One of its kind in terms of Quality and Scale of events.
  • 'Maffick' - Annual Cultural Festival.
  • 'CHIMERA' - Annual National level, Inter college Quiz competition organized by ISTE.
  • 'Robotics'- Annual festival for displaying various robots made the students of the college.
  • 'RIPPLE' - Annual Literary festival of the college hosted by the college literary society DRISHTANT
  • Twist - annual quiz contest by college society IBC
  • 'SportsMania' - annual sports meet
  • 'Samadhan' - Annual National Level programming test.
  • 'NOESIS' - Annual fest of society VISION.
